Generally a below average property with an excellent location. The hotel can represent good value especially in low season but only if you are looking for simple accommodation with an excellent location, and are not concerned about the level of service.

The quality of the rooms is variable and they are basic for this standard of hotel.
Located right in the heart of the Gothic Quarter, less than 5 minutes from the Ramblas.
Breakfast generally not up to the standard of other similar hotels.
Service level is a concern with many customers commenting on poor service.

The hotel occupies a privileged position, standing in the city centre in the heart of the Gothic Quarter. It is near to the cathedral, the Ramblas, the port, the Picasso museum and the very best shopping areas.

Very convenient to restaurants, La Rambla etc... Hotel is well located to take in the Gothic area of the city ... lots of restaurants in the vicinity.... the staff were not at all friendly... The staff were very helpful, even late at night.... The staff were awful. Not helpful at all and very miserable!... reception was glum... Unfriendly staff. ... Surprising amount of noise at night... room at the back would be quieter... I stayed in a single room which was perfectly adequate and clean but very s... small... The Gotico is one of Barcelona's more popular budget hotels, it quite often offers lower rates than other hotels. Being a lower standard hotel it is suitable for customers looking for a budget hotel in a very central location. The hotel has 80 rooms, is traditional in style. The hotel lobby has a familiar atmosphere, decorated with pale coloured floors, walls and reception desk.

Comment

It would have been nice to have a kettle provided in the room. It would also be an idea to have a brochure printed pointing out the top ten things to do in Barcelona and also how to get there from the hotel.

Surprising amount of noise at night from late night revellers going home. A room at the back would be quieter. Very convenient to restaurants, La Rambla etc

I stayed in a single room which was perfectly adequate and clean but very small and with no view since it overlooked the central well. Hotel is well located to take in the Gothic area of the city with lots of restaurants in the vicinity. It should be noted that the Cathedral which is just round the corner from this hotel is currently undergoing renovation and therefore not exactly looking its best.

Top Tip

Open top tourist buses are a good way to get a feel for the city and you can get on and off where and when you like.

Rooms clean and comfortable. Plenty of hot water available during stay. No tea or coffee facilities in rooms, Spanish TV only. Breakfast Buffet style more than adequate. Perfect location for exploring Gothic Quarter and in easy walking distance also of harbour area. Plenty of good restaurants within walking distance

Lovely hotel - ideally placed near to cathedral in old town. 1 min walk to metro stop. Excellent breakfast buffet. No hotel restaurant but pleanty in locality.

Top Tip

Excellent tapas bar and restuarant Jaume 1 next door. Superb food at Los Caracoles(the snails) though not cheap! Cable car trip up to the castle - fantastic view over city

the staff were not at all friendly. the cleanliness of the hotel was very poor. The facilities does not warrant this hotel being a 4 star. Water was brown and each morning there was no hot water.Came back to the hotel at 0130 in the morning and could not get in as the night receptionist was asleep and it was ages before the door opened. The phone was ringing and we had been banging on the door but he still remained asleep
