Unlike most budget hotels, the Grassmarket has the distinction of being housed in a listed building. A friendly property with a good reputation, it’s situated in the area of the same name: just off the Royal Mile, in the shadow of Edinburgh Castle. This means that it’s very central, but the surrounding area can be a little noisy at night.

Location is fabulous, excellent city centre position.
Staff have a good service reputation, only too happy to help
Rooms are basic, clean, functional. All are en suite.

This hotel is superbly located in the historic Grassmarket area famous for its drinking establishments and only minutes walk from Princes Street and Edinburgh Castle.

right in the heart of the action in edinburgh ... as the name suggests is right in the grassmarket ... near all the restaraunts and pubs ... central for everything we wanted... Lots of resteraunts not to expensive nearby, ... Very Cheap price to pay for the location.... the doors are noisey when theyclose... Room was functional, but very small and difficult to find.... disabled access is difficult to many of the rooms.... some of the rooms are in a part of the building that is not served by the lift.... room was spotlessly clean....

a nice pub for breakfasts and other meals... breakfast facilities were in a late opening bar beside the hotel,... the hotel did not still have its own separate breakfast area.... residents did not have a private, quiet, area to have their breakfast but had to eat their breakfast like pub grub....

General Hotel Information

The Grassmarket Hotel is housed in a listed building. Due to the central location of this hotel in a very popular area noise may effect some rooms.
The 44 en suite bedrooms are basic 2 star standard but are nicely decorated and feature hairdryers, small televisions, tea/coffee facilities and are all non smoking. Most bedrooms have the very adaptable and popular zip link beds ensuring flexibility for twins and doubles. This means that triples rooms can be either a double & single or 3 separate beds, just request the configuration you prefer! Some bathrooms have a shower cubicle only and some have both bath and shower.
Adjoining the hotel is Biddy Mulligans Pub, with an Irish theme, this pub is lively and popular with tourists, locals & students and opens late. Breakfast is served between 7.30 and 9.30am and between 8.00 and 10.00am Sat/Sun.
Those guests requiring parking will receive a discount at the nearest NCP garage.

an no frills hotel... very reasonable rate ... if staying for one night this hotel is ideal... Very nice hotel... The hotel is no palace ... Perfect hotel for a stag night ... not really suited for a romantic weekend... Basic no nonsense accomodation... Had a great time the hotel ... Basic but functional hotel,... good breakfast.... stag and hen parties made it almost impossible to get a good nights sleep.... Steep ramps are placed over short flights of stairs... we would recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to edinburgh,... no complaints about the hotel itself.... breakfast in the morning was really nice too....

If you want an no frills hotel, right in the heart of the action in edinburgh at a very reasonable rate then this is definately the hotel for you. we visit edinburgh 3-4 times a year and if staying for one night this hotel is ideal. if you are staying for a longer period of time then possibly a hotel with more facilities would be better. this hotel as the name suggests is right in the grassmarket and near all the restaraunts and pubs you need.

Top Tip

The reason we stayed here is because we went to a gig at the picture house just up the road. i would also recommend maxi's bistro for lunch. brilliant food and not as expensive as you may think.

Very nice hotel. Fairly cheap with a nice pub for breakfasts and other meals.

Top Tip

If you like Indian cuisine Ghandi's is a must. However Mahatma - the patron saint of the restaurant, suggest you not to indulge in eating. Booking by phone is recommended, otherwise you'd have to wait more than half an hour in the evening.

The hotel is no palace but if you are looking for somewhere to just get you head down on a n ight out its ideal. Perfect hotel for a stag night but not really suited for a romantic weekend. The staff are excellent and very helpful.
