If you want a simple but convenient base for exploring both the Old and New Towns of Edinburgh, the Hanover Hotel is the place for you. Its location just can’t be bettered for the night and day life of Edinburgh city centre, ideal base for sightseeing and pubs at night.

Fantastic location a minute away from Princes Street.
Simple clean comfortable rooms
Ground floor Cafe open to the public
Rose street is a busy pub street and may suffer from noise

In a superb position on Rose Street with its abundance of bars and restaurants, just seconds from Princes Street. The hotel is located in the heart of historic Edinburgh, a short walk from most places of interest, such as the Castle and the Royal Mile.

Check in was quick and the receptionist was very welcoming and helpful. ... I guess staff who works there could have been a bit more friendly, and helpfull... Only staff I encountered were on reception, both were very nice.... Staff were friendly... maid service, although daily, was not brilliant, we didn't get clean towels for the entire duration of our stay... The Staff was really friendly...

Our room was spacious although having requested a twin we ended up with a double.... Shower, water was either very hot or freezering!!!!!... once you get into your hotel room you are presently surprised.... Windows need replacing.... even though a bar is right next door, it was very quiet at night.... fridge useful!)Shower fantastic, bed very comfortable.... windows rattled alot,... a very nice bed and you had to eat breakfast in your room.... Rooms are nicely decorated and the shower is the most powerful we have ever experienced,... Dont stay here if you want some sleep,... room was quite large...

General Hotel Information

Situated on Georgian Rose Street, the building that has become the Hanover Hotel was originally the headquarters of a bank. It was turned into a hotel in 1999 by Waugh Taverns Ltd and was refurbished in March 2006. The welcoming lobby is accessible via a short flight of steps and leads in turn to a bar-cafe area that is popular with residents and the public alike. The guestrooms are spacious for the most part and appointed in a simple, unfussy style. All are decently maintained, as are the en suite bathrooms. One unusual feature of the hotel is that breakfast is provided as a pre-packaged tray (rather like an airline meal) in each guestroom’s fridge. This can be very useful if you want to make an early start on sightseeing.

For a short stay we got a very good deal.... End of the day I enjoyed my staying there ... Loud music from nearby building until about midnight ... The reception area of the hotel does not really do it any favours... alright for anyone simply wanting a bed for the night... breakfast is airline style on a plastic tray placed in the fridge the night before,... it is odd that it should be rated as 3*.... breakfast was in the fridge!... Definately bit faulty towers... breakfast was supplied pre-packed daily in room fridge... (food basic but ok... Very basic accomodation,... nicely decorated but not well maintained.... I would only recomend this hotel if the person wanted somewhere to sleep in a convenient location because thats all it was, a bed for the night,... We had a lovely 2 night stay... Breakfast is continental and in a box placed in your fridge each day, tasty and adequate....

End of the day I enjoyed my staying there but one thing I did not understand, why the check in is at 3 pm? Is`nt that tooooo late, they ask you leave the hotel at 11 am in the morning, so to clean the room, takes 4 hours???You are actually not allowed there 1 day hall?? |It seem to me stargange to have check in time at 3 pm, I have never been any hotel before with this rule???And I guess staff who works there could have been a bit more friendly, and helpfull... thank you

recommend Wildfire restaurant in Rose Street & Indigo Yard bar/restaurant behind Charlotte Square -lovely food, great staff & atmosphere.
