The hotel is located in the heart of Edinburgh city centre, adjacent to the St James Shopping Centre and right next to Princes Street.

centrally located hotel... A centrally located hotel for theatre, cinema and restaurants as well as Princes Street ... GREAT LOCATION IF YOU WANT TO BE CENTRAL ... VERY HANDY FOR BUSES TO THE HMS BRITANNIA (NO 22 STOPS RIGHT OUTSIDE!) ... hotel is on the lieth road coming off princess street... Great location - right on Princess Street and close to Rose and George Street for Bars and Restaurants.... Excellent location for our trip to the Playhouse Theatre and for shopping in Princes Street ... Easy access to hotel from Bus station ... easy access to and from St James Shopping centre... Easy access to Princes Street/Royal Mile.... opposite playhouse, very good.... WELL PLACED FOR ALL OF THE EDINBURGH SIGHTS AND SHOPPING ... Location convenient for Princes St and sights.... excellent location. edinburgh centre on your doorstop.... very central to all local attractions.... Central location...

the maid woke us up on Sunday morning at 9am to see if she could come in and clean... Poor staff... staff were fantastic and very helpful... Food sent back several times due to incorrect order... Staff very helpful and friendly... service for breakfast in the restaurant which was very slow and the food when it came was cold... Staff were very helpfull.... service was brilliant.... They even look after your luggage for a few hours after you have checked out,... were told on three seperate occasions that we were not booked in for a Scottish breakfast... Staff very helpful and cheerful... good service by staff in bar & restuarant.... The staff were not helpful...

Room was not available at 2pmrequest for arriving early ... free room upgrade ... the bathroom could do with updating... we were at the front of the hotel and it was a bit noisey although it to be expected ... if you order a double bed I would check to see that it is not two single beds joined together... rooms are pleasantly decorated.... beautiful veiws... room was tiny... A room at the back of the hotel is recommended... room small but adequate...

?15 charge for parking at front door of hotel... Hotel restaurant bookings were not compatible with local theatre times... Room Facilities ie iron/trouser press were poor... parking is limited and alternate parking is 200m away over a busy road. ?15 a night parking charge.... The price of evening meals was rather expensive so we dined elswhere. ... DRINK AT THE BAR OF THE HOTEL IS EXPENSIVE... Bar and restaurant are modern... not a lot of choice of food on the hotel menu,... bar shut at 12.00... you can park overnight in the centre's car park for ?6.90 which is fantastic!...

General Hotel Information

Situated at the east end of Princes Street, the Thistle Hotel is an attractive modern property, which offers direct access to the St James Shopping Centre. The spacious lobby is appointed in a pleasantly unfussy style, with comfortable tables and chairs. The medium sized guestrooms are clean and comfortable with pastel-toned décor. The hotel’s Craig’s Restaurant serves a wide choice of cuisine in comfortable surroundings. There is also an American-style saloon and a cocktail bar. (*Please note refurbishment work will start end of 2008 until early 2009. Work on the restaurant will start end of May 2008 for a short period.)

took over 45 mins to check in ... BREAKFAST ON THE FIRST DAY WAS WORST EVER... A very nice centrally located hotel... We had a very good deal on the hotel price... Had a wonderful stay... Highly recommended... NO REAL COMPLAINTS... For the cost of the break in the Hotel was great value... Yes I would recommend this Hotel... I would also recommend that you take your booking confirmation with you... HOTEL IS FIRST CLASS... Hotel itself was ok but breakfast was a nightmare... Not sure if I would recommend it... Scottish breakfast the best hotel one I've had. ... will be returning again.... dated looking exterior but that shouldn't put you off....

Room was not available at 2pm request for arriving early unable to be accommodated upgrade room was then made available at no extra cost £15 charge for parking at front door of hotel did seem rather steep,free room upgrade made up for this. Hotel restaurant bookings were not compatible with local theatre times. Room Facilities ie iron/trouser press were poor.

If going to Playhouse Theatre booking a meal locally is best idea.

If you are in Edinburgh during the Tattoo just walk around Princes street and the Royal Mile for plenty of free entertainment from performers.

BREAKFAST ON THE FIRST DAY WAS WORST EVER, COOKED BREAKFAST HAD IN MY VIEW BEEN REHEATED IN A MICROWAVE, SAUSAGE WAS BLACK IN MIDDLE COULD NOT BE CUT WITH A KNIFE !!! BROUGHT THIS TO ATTENTION OF THE MANAGER WHO THANKED ME FOR SHARING THIS, AND WALKED OFF!!!!!
