The hotel and staff were excellent. They were so friendly and helpful. We only had bed and breakfast but wished we had booked an evening meal in the rooftop restaurant to marvel at the view. The mini bar in the room was free. Usually there is a hefty charge if you use any of the fridge contents.... but not at the Carlton George

We went to Ashton Lane in the West End of Glasgow for an evening meal and drink. It costs about £4 in a taxi or 80p in the underground. Worth the journey and the street is just full of pubs and restaurants. We then came back for a quite drink at the ajoining Waxi O'Conners only to find it closes at midnight. Unless you want night clubs that seems to be time for bed.

The lounge could only be used by guests who had paid for a superior room therefore there was nowhere to relax within the hotel for a quiet pre dinner drink.
The hotel was too warm and our room was near to the kitchen flue which was noisey and therefore we could not open the window due to the noise and smells eminating from the flue. If we had been staying longer we would have asked to be moved to another room.
The reception staff were excellent

1.Missed not having a comfortable lounge area away from the room.
2.Would rather have room ventilation available than running air-conditioning constantly.
3.The hotel was very, very quiet - excellent.
4.Bad service experience from a male receptionist on a Sunday morning when we found the hairdrier wasn't working after my wife had already washed her hair. Not a good start to the day!
The breakfast arrangement was generally excellent, except it took far too long to be served special order fried eggs. We had finished the rest of the breakfast by the time they arrived. On another morning my wife was served the most inedible mushroom omlette we've ever seen.
These little grumbles apart it is still a very good hotel and we would certainly use it again.

Bit dissapointed with the room . This is the second time staying in this hotel and the courtyard facing room was not as spacious and very dark.
Opening the window to cool the room was pointless as the noise from the fans etc situated in the court yard made iot impossible to sleep. The air conditioning was useful but by its very nature it was noisy too.

A lounge area would have been nice as the pub next door was not our scene. Otherwise, we found the hotel was excellent with courteous service and nice restaurant.

Comment
Because this room was not booked directly with them I felt the room allocated to myself was dreadful. For a single superior room it was very poor. I had to ask for a plug for the bath twice. Had to point out that the main free standing light needed a bulb. Room was at the very back of the building so it was very dark. There was no natural light that came in. I have stayed here before and never had a problem. So was very disappointed this time.

Make sure the hotel explain all their free services ie. like the Edward Lounge for the residents. As George Square is very busy in the summer. Check out "what's on in Glasgow" website.
