A fairly basic hotel most suited to those who prefer to be centrally located but are trying to keep the costs down. Some rooms are very small and leave little room to move but are very clean. Overall a good value hotel in an expensive part of the city.

The hotel is located in the centre of Rome, 30 metres from the Via Veneto, one of Rome's most famous and elegant shopping streets. All major sites and attractions are easily accessible and the Spanish steps are only a few minutes’ walk away. The closest metro station, Piazza Spagna, is also just 3 minutes away.

General Hotel Information
The Caprice Hotel is housed in a traditional Italian palazzo, which is typical of the architecture in the surrounding area. The medium sized lobby has been completely renovated and is in immaculate condition. The hotel offers 40 basic but comfortable guestrooms, generally small to medium in size. To help guests relax better the windows are double-glazed. All the rooms are decently maintained and well equipped, as are the en suite bathrooms. The hotel offers a Continental buffet every morning in its functional breakfast room. The hotel is suitable for those on a budget looking for simple basic accommodation with a very central location.

I have spoken to Hotels-by-Phone about this hotel at length since our visit. The hotel must have closed off part of the building since they wrote their website entry as there is neither a Valentino or roof terrace restaurant nor a piano bar. The hotel is tired and scruffy and the rooms decidedly average. Due to a problem with our room the next two rooms the hotel staff tried to put us in put such a dampener on our weekend and they didn't try to compensate by even offering a drink! However, the sheets and towels are clean, the beds are hard and the water is hot. Small mercies.
Top Tip
Thankfully the hotel is in a good location, Via Veneto is great for watching the beautiful people go by although pricey for meals/drinks as you would expect in this kind of area. Most of the 'sights' are walkable but all the tourist buses have a stop at Piazza Barberini which is less than 5 minutes walk away.
