The Imperiale Hotel is a lovely building in the heart of the city, on the splendid Via Veneto and just a stone's throw from Piazza Barberini and a handy metro station. You can walk to the hotel from Termini Train station in about 15 minutes, or alternatively, it is two stops away on the Metro. All the city's main attractions eg Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Piazza Di Populo, Piazza Navona etc are very close by and easy to walk to, although if you want to go to the Vatican, you definitely need to take the Metro, a bus or a taxi.
We found the Imperiale Hotel to be refreshingly clean and the rooms were well equipped (nice wooden floors and air conditioning), although the en-suite in room 321 is unnecessarily tight for space (the door only opens about 35cm because of a doorstop fixed to prevent the door knocking into the WC)because of the Europeans insistance on providing a bidet (which also means getting in and out of the bath/shower is somewhat of a mission !).
Top Tip
Plenty to do and see in and around this area. There is a wealth of good quality restaurants, although some can be fairly expensive because of the upper class nature of the locale.

Comment
Hotel has a very comfortable feel, staff friendly, but breakfast poor in selection and quality. However, the location is great, walkable to the main attractions and with a cafe next door and two resturants adjacent. The street itself is busy but very pleasant feel with trees in the middle.
Top Tip
When visiting the Colosseum or Vatican be early as the queues build up even in November! Remember to take a photo i.d. with you if you want to hire the audio phones at the attractions. The tour bus is well worth the 16 euros to see the city and you can get on and off all day.

Our room was quite small but clean - bed and pillows very hard - no view - bathroom small but very clean. My only fault really with this hotel would be the breakfast. It was dreadful.

The hotel was obviously very grand in its time but now looks that it needs an up lift. The rooms were small but the beds very comfortable. Not all rooms had a bath and shower so need to ask for this if needed. Breakfast not very good for a four star hotel.

Two very good restaurants to recommend in the "middle range"
1) Restaurang Orso next to Navona Square
2) Escala Very good local restaurant very reasonable in price in Trasevere area.

Our room was very good and the hotel location was excellent. Don't bother with the bar because it's expensive, the drinks weren't very good and we had to keep searching for the barman.

BUT I would have some reservations for recommending. The rooms are very small. The breakfasts are very poor even by continental standards (no chance of having eggs or bacon). And the bar area isn't appealing or welcoming in any way. They need soft lighting, music and to make it look inviting rather than a reception area. The best thing to say about the hotel is that the staff are very friendly AND the location is superb.

We walked everywhere (with a 9 year old) and when we needed to take the Metro to the Vatican it was only a 2 min walk away.
